Rather than using language and verbal communication to resolve problems, the aim of somatic therapy is to use your body to help release stress, tension or blocked emotions via somatic movement or dance.
Embodiment in somatic psychology applies mindfulness and movement practices to awaken body awareness as a tool for healing. It is your connection in this moment with the direct experience arising in your body.
You are made of vibration. Everything that is alive pulsates with energy which contains information. Your body holds the key to your healing. Your body is your temple, your vessel in this life, it is an intelligent vibrational instrument, constantly communicating with the world around you.
Everything in the universe sings and dances as everything in the universe has its own sound and rhythm.
Your heartbeat, your breath is the rhythm of your life. It's an expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness or envy. Dance enchants the world and needs no language. Your body speaks a language of its own, revealing all the mystery within the music of the cosmos: dance is music made visible.
Your habitual ways of being are reflected in your movement patterns, your thought patterns and in the ways in which you relate to the world.
If you think about how much your attention, posture and movement have shifted just in the last 15 years, organizing ourselves around cell phones, let alone the changes in humanity over the last thousand or fifty thousand years. Though our daily behaviours and activities have changed significantly, our physiology, our nervous systems - our psyches have not, and the intelligence of our bodies is often right there, under a thin surface level dust of forgetting.
